The book “Revigorating the State of Rio de Janeiro — how a new competitive economy emerges that recovers the ecosystem while addressing urgent social needs”, with 12 projects to boost a sustainable economy in Rio, will be launched this Tuesday, at Casa G20, in Ipanema, in the South Zone of Rio. The author is Belgian economist Gunter Pauli, known for spreading the concept of the “Blue Economy” around the world.

— The time to carry out more analyzes is over, this will only lead to more paralysis. Those who make a difference are those who dare to make bold decisions, knowing that the time has come to offer everyone the chance to do better, be better, live better and make the most of this exceptional time given to us on Earth – says Pauli , calling on Rio’s “creative and daring” citizens to create an invigorating path for the state’s future.

In Brazil, at the invitation of the National Institute of the Environment (INEA), the economist had the help of the president of the ZERI Brasil Foundation, Lúcio Busch, in organizing the material. The partnership began in January this year at the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), and presents everything from non-polluting boats to reforestation with tapirs as possible solutions.

— The administration of Governor Cláudio Castro, sensitive to environmental issues and aware of the potential of the Rio de Janeiro territory, in partnership with Gunter Pauli, brought together scientists, entrepreneurs, engaged civil society and state employees, and now has this product that is a set of opportunities — highlights the Secretary of Environment and Sustainability, Bernardo Rossi.

The book, with more than 200 pages, was organized into 15 chapters and divided into five blocks: the contextualization of approaches, the blue economy and the new economies of the sea, consumer behavior, Rio de Janeiro’s forests as economic potential and, finally, energy savings.

The work will be free and online, and will be accessible via the Rio2030 and SEAS websites, after its launch this Tuesday.
