According to Felipe Kutianski, specialist in exercise physiology and founder of the Onbody training platform, knowing what you really want to achieve as a goal is the first step towards making an assertive choice. “Each exercise modality has its specific characteristics of stimuli, movement biomechanics, muscular actions, energy pathways, among others. You need to be honest about the goals you want to achieve before spending time, money and energy”, he states.

Training modalities: how to choose?

According to the professional, among the most popular modalities currently are Crossfit and weight training. “Crossfit is known for its focus on high-intensity training, which combines elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio, generally aiming to improve endurance and physical conditioning. On the other hand, bodybuilding focuses mainly on lifting weights to develop muscle mass, strength and body definition”, explains Kutianski, who also reinforces a common point between the two modalities: weight loss.

Other types of physical activities that are very popular are functional training and calisthenics. “Functional stands out for its approach to multi-joint movements that aim to improve stability, mobility, balance and coordination. Calisthenics, in turn, uses body weight as resistance in a variety of exercises, such as push-ups, pull-ups and squats, promoting strength, body control and endurance and flexibility”, he points out.

Care after making your choice

Once you have chosen the ideal modality for you, a very important thing to be careful about is the volume of training. This is because, according to the physical education teacher, it is necessary to adjust it to avoid excesses, as it can result in injuries and immunosuppression.

“It is possible to practice more than one of these modalities or the same modality more than once a day easily, but you need to be cautious and careful not to exceed your own body’s limits”, he highlights. According to Kutianski, whatever the activity chosen, it is best to always seek professional guidance and train in the modality that suits you best.
