A doctor suspected of being drunk was removed from duty while treating patients at the Municipal Emergency Room in Monte Sião, in the south of Minas Gerais, this Sunday (May 5). The city hall and the company responsible for managing doctors’ schedules stated that “measures” are being taken.

The mayor of Monte Sião, José Pocai, in a video published on social media, explained the situation. “A doctor came to work the way he shouldn’t have. When he arrived he was wearing a mask, which prevented them from noticing [os sinais de embriaguez]. He saw two people and they complained about the way they were treated,” he said.

After realizing the situation the doctor was in, the nurses suspended the other care he would perform. The head of the municipal Executive highlighted that there were no previous complaints against the health professional. “He is a doctor who always provides very good care in the public network. He is highly praised. During his shifts he always took good care of his patients.”

A replacement doctor was sent to the Municipal Emergency Room to continue the care. “The measures have already been taken. We hope, of course, that it doesn’t happen again”, he highlighted.

The Clin-Med Group, responsible for managing shifts, stated that “administrative measures” were taken. “We emphasize that the Emergency Department was never without a doctor, as there are always two professionals on daytime shifts”, he highlighted in his position.

A police report was registered by the Monte Sião Health Directorate. “We highlight our commitment to the population in continuing to work harder and better every day”, states one of the excerpts of the note from the city hall.
