Tico Santa Cruz talks about treatment with cannabidiol, ‘weaning’ from the black stripe medicine and ‘peace and love’ phase: ‘I’m better treated’

In his personal life, Tico Santa Cruz says he only tends to look back to avoid the risk of repeating the same mistakes. But as a band, with Detonautas, revisiting the past yields good results. One example is the acoustic show celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first album, which takes place this Tuesday, the 30th, at Teatro Riachuelo, in the center of Rio.

— Yes, this gives the feeling that we have built a consistent career. The market recently had two significant, sold-out tours, namely NX Zero and Titãs, which gave a boost to national rock, motivated by a wave of nostalgia that benefits Detonautas as well. This effect is cyclical — analyzes the 46-year-old vocalist.

This consistency also gives a different perspective on career paths. The group from Rio, which was already at the top of the charts with ” Quando o sol se foi ” and “Outro place”, no longer feels pressure for new national hits.

— We are committed to being active, creative and having a good relationship with our fans. The dynamics in music consumption today are different from when we started, right? And, today, being well on streaming platforms, having many followers, is not always reflected in crowded shows. It doesn’t have that consistency. Of course, if we launch something and it blows up like that, it will be great too, because we will have more maturity to deal with all of this.

The balance has also been changing in my personal life. On social media, fans joke that Tico Santa Cruz is more “peace and love”. It must be because he isn’t getting into so many virtual debates anymore.

— I am treated better (laughs). Doing my psychoanalysis, my therapies. That makes a lot of difference. When you are younger, there is greater intensity and impulsiveness. You obviously make choices and say things that you sometimes don’t think much about.

Part of this new phase also involves what Tico calls “weaning” from black-and-white medications. He, who had already been diagnosed with anxiety and insomnia, started treatment based on cannabidiol.

— I’m going through a stage in my life where I need to face some very strong emotions, related to internal and private issues. So I say that I am in the intermediate phase of treatment. Cannabidiol has helped with this denser demand, with greater anxiety crises. I don’t use as many black-label medications as I used to, but I haven’t completely abandoned them, which really shows how difficult it is to find that balance to have a good quality of life.

Sleep, which used to be a problem in recent years, has also improved. In fact, there has been a small deregulation in recent months. The singer is moving house in Rio. The interview with EXTRA was done just moments before putting more things in the truck.

— I haven’t been sleeping well for two months. I am a person attached to the organization and this story of change destabilizes me a little (laughs).

Confined again?

Tico’s opinions in recent months were really about “BBB 24”. The artist was right when it came to choosing Davi as his champion. With the end of the program, he continues to pay attention to the professional paths of some former inmates.

— I was really rooting for Davi in ​​the game and I hope everything goes well with him out here. Celebrity life is not easy. There has to be a great balance. If I could give him one piece of advice, it would be for Davi to seek therapy. It helps to go through the turmoil that public figures end up in.

Was this advice followed by Tico himself when he started his career in the early 2000s?

— I started going to therapy in 2004. If I hadn’t done it since then, I might not even be alive today.

In addition to having a good voice for those eliminated for having been an artist for so long, the singer of Detonautas has plenty of experience as a former reality show, as he was on “A Fazenda”, in the third season, in 2010. An experience that he would repeat if an invitation to “BBB” appeared. But the motivations are now different.

— When I accepted the first time it was for financial reasons. Today, thank God, I am already established. I know all the issues related to my personality, but I would accept going into confinement again to find out if I could overcome my emotional issues. Much more than for the prize, which continues to be very important, of course.
