Recent data released by INCA estimates 704 thousand new cases of cancer per year until 2025 in Brazil. In view of this, FEMAMA University, a distance learning and training platform of the Brazilian Federation of Philanthropic Institutions to Support Breast Health (FEMAMA), launched this month a new course, “Quality of Life for Oncology Patients”, which delves into important concepts in the patient’s journey. The classes address the comprehensiveness of physical, mental, social and spiritual care, in addition to clarifying some myths about the subject. The self-instructional course allows autonomous learning, having 6 modules, a workload of 40 hours/class with certificate and several teachers and guests discussing the topic.

Led by experts and guests in the field, “Quality of Life for Oncology Patients” presents experiences and best practices at all stages of the patient’s journey, in addition to explaining the importance of navigation – monitoring by specialized professionals from diagnosis to the end of their treatment – and public policies that protect the patient, such as the 30 and 60 Day Laws. “The launch of the course reflects our commitments to oncology literacy and democratizing access to information that help provide a more dignified journey for patients. It is also addressed to family members and friends of patients, as well as health professionals”, comments Maira Caleffi, breast specialist, Volunteer President of FEMAMA and Head of the Breast Center at Hospital Moinhos de Vento.

Created with the aim of disseminating relevant, quality and reliable content, FEMAMA University has 9 free courses for people in the third sector, patients, volunteers, family members and those who want to learn and get closer to defending the rights of cancer patients in Brazil.
