This Thursday (25) the Department of Health confirmed seven more deaths from dengue in Cascavel, totaling 19 deaths from the disease in the municipality.
Cascavel is facing a significant increase in dengue cases, as detailed in the latest epidemiological report for week 16 of 2024. The document reveals a worrying situation, with a significant increase in both notifications and confirmed cases of the disease.
Evolution of Notifications and Confirmed Cases
From week 31 of 2023 to week 16 of 2024, the total number of notifications of suspected dengue fever reached 29,280, an increase of 13.25% compared to the previous period that ended in week 15 of 2024. Specifically in week 16, there were 3,426 new notifications were registered.
In terms of confirmed cases, the increase is even more pronounced. By week 15 of 2024, 19,765 cases had been confirmed, while in week 16, another 3,018 cases were added, totaling 22,783 confirmations, which represents an increase of 15.27% compared to the total accumulated up to the previous week.
Status of Dengue Cases
Of the total cases analyzed, 78% were confirmed as dengue, 17% were discarded, 3% are still under analysis and 2% were considered inconclusive.
Deaths and Impact on Public Health
To date, 19 deaths have been recorded due to the disease in the region, a number that raises an alert for local health authorities and reinforces the need for urgent measures to combat the transmitting mosquito, Aedes aegypti.
Data released by the Department of Health shows that of the 19, six dengue victims were under 30 years of age, and among them, five did not have comorbidities. Furthermore, it is possible to note that the majority of the 19 deaths occurred among women (12 victims).
