The constant search for effective methods to improve health has led scientists to investigate the impacts of natural drinks on prevention and treatment of common diseases of the modern era.

A study, carried out by Pennsylvania State University, in the United States, reveals impressive data about the potential of a tea combined with physical exercise in minimizing liver disorders.

Joshua Lambert, professor of Food Science and author of the study, says the research came about amid growing concern about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a condition widely related to obesity and type 2 diabetes.

According to the findings of the study, the green tea is the best option to help eliminate liver fat.

The research team divided mice into groups, subjecting one of them to a high-fat diet for 16 weeks, during which they also consumed green tea extract and performed regular exercise.

The results were significant, demonstrating a 75% reduction in the amount of liver fatcompared to rodents that did not receive this combined treatment.

Green tea is a type of non-oxidized tea known for its antioxidant properties and its light, refreshing flavor.

The role of green tea polyphenols

The study pointed out an interesting interaction between the polyphenols present in green tea and digestive enzymes, suggesting a possible decrease in fat absorption.

Lambert explains that this interaction appears to restrict the digestion of food compounds, causing part of the fat ingested to be eliminated directly by the digestive system, without being absorbed by the body.

In addition to the reduction in fat in the liver, the study observed a possible more pronounced gene expression related to the formation of new mitochondria in treated mice, a positive sign that indicates more efficient metabolism in the body.

In previous research, it had already been noted that synergistic effects of green tea and physical activity in improving cardiovascular health. And also in reducing body weight.

It is important to highlight, however, that the tests were carried out on rodents, and human studies are still needed to confirm the effectiveness of this combination.
