The dog soon starts sniffing the little girl, but Victor gets wise to the interaction and pushes her away after a few moments. “A reunion full of love. Yes, a reunion. I really believe that Tina understood that that little person in front of her was someone who lived with her for 9 months, kept inside me”, wrote Fernanda in the caption.

“Tina was present in all the joys and anxieties of motherhood and her identification with Pilar was instantaneous. She knew how much Pipa was expected. Pilar and Tina are already sisters and will build many beautiful childhood memories”, she continued.

The next scenes show Pilar lying on top of the dog. Then, the video shows a moment where the baby is lying on her father’s lap and Tina lays her head on top of her too. “They don’t let go of each other. Tina wants to be lying next to us all the time, following us around the house wherever Pilar is. Calling us to eat? Now it’s a lot of work. Going for a walk? Another job. And mom and dad’s hearts overflow here seeing this beautiful family we built. ‘Lambeijos’ full of love for you”, concluded Fernanda.

The recording has already reached more than 1.6 million views and left Internet users with warm hearts, with more than 11 thousand comments. “My God, everything I ever dreamed of seeing these two together, I love you,” wrote Victor. “What love! I was moved,” said actress Mônica Martelli. “The most beautiful video I’ve seen! They really did well to include Tina like that, so she could feel part of it and not be jealous of the baby… The cutest thing,” said model Ellen Jabour.

How to introduce babies to dogs?

Yes, babies can live with dogs, and this relationship can do a lot of good. However, it is always important to take some precautions to ensure everyone’s safety. “It is not safe to leave any dog near a baby unsupervised and, even with supervision, never allow free access. Of course, there are many dogs that love children, but approaching them with free access is not recommended, as, first, the dog needs to learn to respect the baby’s space”, explains canine behaviorist Renata Gomes de Lima, owner of Bangalô Dog Hostel (SP), in an interview with CRESCER.

She suggests first letting the animal and baby just coexist in the same environment. “Whether there will be interaction depends on the dog. If the dog is more reserved, there should not be an interaction of running, pulling, squeezing and biting”, she says. It is also recommended that the first contact be made with great caution. “Never introduce a person to a dog by placing their face to face. Always do it sideways and with plenty of space. Because this direct, face-to-face interaction is a very offensive position for them and can go very wrong, like when a dog bites a child’s face and a tragedy happens. It may work out once in a while, but believe me, it can go very wrong”, he warns.

Knowing the dog is essential. “They always give signs that something is wrong. Generally speaking, when he bends back, he is cornered — and dogs attack much more out of fear than out of aggression. Therefore, a dog that is afraid is more dangerous, but These are generic signs. To get a good reading of an animal you need to know it, observe it and live with it”, says Renata. “It is essential to understand what his needs are, what is needed to meet them and what this animal needs to learn and understand about the family’s routine to be part of the human context”, she adds.

As the child grows, they also need to understand the animal’s limits. “The child can learn to lead the dog on a leash or give food. With this, the dog will understand the respect it should have for that person, regardless of their age. And this is all built”, he highlights. Other than that, there isn’t much of a secret. It is necessary to meet all the pet’s needs, keep vaccinations and vet visits up to date and, if necessary, undergo training to avoid accidents.

Can dogs lick babies?

Don’t worry if your child gets a kiss in the form of a lick on the face. “It’s practically impossible to think that the dog won’t lick the child’s hand or some part of the body. Therefore, the most important thing is to keep the pet healthy to avoid any health problems that could pass on to the baby”, explained pediatrician Carlos Eduardo Correa.

Benefits of living with dogs

“The affective, behavioral, emotional and social stimulus that pets offer children have a direct effect on the brain, which responds positively to reducing stress and directly maintaining physical and emotional health”, says pediatrician Ana Márcia Guimarães Alves, from the Department of Development and Behavior of the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP). And it doesn’t stop there, there are many benefits of having a pet at home. Check out!

Improves allergies
A study carried out by researchers at the University of Gothenburg, in Sweden, with 1,278 children, concluded that those who live with dogs and cats when they are babies are less likely to develop allergies later in childhood, in addition to improving the little ones’ immune system. “This is called immunological tolerance, when the developing immune system starts to see cat or dog antigens as something natural for the child, without reacting with an exaggerated antibody response or hypersensitivity”, says pediatrician Victor Nudelman, specialist in immunology and allergy.

Reduces stress and anxiety
When children interact with pets, their bodies react. “The pleasant physical contact of stroking the animal releases large amounts of neurotransmitters, such as endorphins, which are a natural analgesic, reducing the perception of pain, reducing stress and anxiety”, says Luciana Issa, technical director of IBETAA – Institute Brazilian Animal-Assisted Education and Therapy.

  • Dogs help reduce stress levels in children, study says

Produces better citizens
Living with pets promotes the release of oxytocin, known as the love hormone. It helps build relationships, generates empathy for people and a greater degree of generosity and trust. It therefore contributes to improving social behavior. “When a child grows up with an animal, they learn more about organization, responsibility and caring for others. There are even studies, such as the one published by Western University, in Australia, in partnership with the Telethon Institute, showing that children who care for animals will be better citizens”, says psychotherapist Silvana Fedeli Prado, founder of the NGO Patas Therapeutas.

Helps combat obesity
Small pet owners are less likely to be obese, as pediatrician Ana Márcia, from SBP, says: “They have more opportunities to play outdoors, run with animals, reduce screen time and sedentary lifestyle, which which reduces the chance of obesity.” And that was exactly the conclusion of the Australian study cited by psychotherapist Silvana, published in the journal Preventive Medicine Reports.

  • Babies who live with dogs are stronger and healthier

Reduces sadness and helps treat depression
“Interaction with animals promotes the release of serotonin which, in addition to the feeling of well-being, contributes to better sleep regulation and good mood, in addition to acting in the fight against depression”, highlights Luciana Issa. More than the production of the neurotransmitter, there is a behavioral factor that helps in the treatment of depression. “Those who are depressed tend not to take care of themselves, it is part of their condition, but they will have to take care of the animal, and this helps to improve their depression”, says Silvana Fideli Prado.

Collaborates in the development of children with special needs
Pets can also be great allies for these little ones. “Through physical contact, the animal becomes a kind of extension of the individual, helping with coordination and mobility, for example, which promotes confidence and self-esteem”, says Luciana Issa. She also highlights that there are animals that are trained precisely to help children with special needs, called comfort and emotional support animals. “They can be trained to perform more specific functions, such as ‘supporting’ the tutor when he presents a crisis due to some disorder”, explains the technical director of IBETAA.
