In a ceremony held on the afternoon of this Tuesday, April 30th, the Deliberative Council of the Cultural Heritage of Lavras made official the listing of the architectural complex of the Historic Campus of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA). The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Municipal Government, the Lavras Cultural Heritage Council, members of the university community and representatives of civil society.
The listing, granted through decree No. 17,497 of January 2024, signed by Mayor Jussara Menicucci, recognizes the historical, cultural and artistic value of the campus, and holds important memories of the city and the institution. From now on, the site will be under special protection, with preservation and conservation measures being implemented to guarantee its integrity for future generations.
For the Superintendent of Culture of Lavras and Executive Secretary of the Deliberative Council of the Cultural Heritage of Lavras, Lucinda Nunes, the listing represents more than the protection of a material asset. “Here on the historic campus of UFLA we have buildings, which tell the history of the city, and tell the story of the beginning of the University. So this whole space is very important, both for the municipality and for the University”, she highlights.
The recognition of the UFLA Historic Campus as a cultural heritage site in Lavras is an important milestone for the community. In addition to preserving an asset of inestimable value, the measure also contributes to strengthening the city’s cultural identity and promoting local tourism.
