This Tuesday (26), the Federal Police (PF) carries out an operation to investigate alleged irregularities during the process of contracting emergency services during the covid-19 pandemic by the city of Volta Redonda, in the south of the state of Rio. of January. The warrants – issued by the 2nd Federal Court of Volta Redonda – are being carried out in residences and offices linked to those being investigated, in the municipalities of Volta Redonda, Rio Claro, Pinheiral, Barra do Piraí, Paraíba do Sul and Rio de Janeiro.
No bidding
According to the PF, the investigation began in 2020, based on an anonymous complaint. Police officers found signs of irregularities in a bidding exemption process relating to the contracting of services for the installation of equipment in a field hospital set up to care for patients with Covid-19, worth R$1.6 million.
The PF investigation also found that there was overpricing in the contracting of services, irregularities in the presentation of documents, targeting of the object to be contracted, use of shell companies and collusion between companies, political agents and public servants.
The Federal Police reported, in Rio de Janeiro, that, in addition to bidding crimes, those investigated could be charged with criminal association, embezzlement and money laundering.
