Prince William takes first trip alone after his wife’s cancer diagnosis
Britain’s Prince William said on Friday that his wife Kate “is fine”, in a rare public comment about the Princess of Wales, who is undergoing preventative chemotherapy against cancer.
Kate announced in March that she was undergoing treatment after cancer was detected as a result of abdominal surgery she underwent at the beginning of the year.
At the time, she said she was fine, but the couple’s office said it would not provide regular updates on her health and that she should not return to public duties until her doctors say she is well enough to do so.
However, when asked how his wife was during a visit to a community hospital on the Isles of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall in southwest England, William, 41, replied: “She’s fine, thank you, yes.”
The heir to the throne, who is also the Duke of Cornwall, was on a two-day trip to the region, where he visited a site for a new project to combat homelessness, spent time on a beach with local groups and visited a community hospital.
William also met with port operators and local businesspeople on St Mary’s, the largest of the islands, talking to them about preparations for the summer tourist season.
His father, King Charles, 75, also fulfilled his commitment on Thursday, visiting a military training college, in his latest engagement since returning to public duties after being diagnosed with cancer.
