The heavy rains that have hit Rio Grande do Sul since last week have also affected the automotive industry. Production of the Chevrolet Onix and Onix Plus in Gravataí (RS), which was suspended between May 2nd and 6th due to the large number of units in stock, does not yet have a return date.

According to GM, the region of the Rio Grande do Sul factory was not directly affected by the rains. However, the brand evaluates the weather conditions in the state daily and will take specific actions for this situation. Another concern is logistics, as there are many roadblocks on the state’s roads and airports.

Previously, production had been temporarily suspended last week to adjust the supply chain. According to the Automotive Business website, there is a stock of around 19 thousand ready-made units of the Onix and Onix Plus duo in the Rio Grande do Sul factory yard.

Currently, the units only produce these two models, which should receive a restyling by the end of this year. Among the new features, the duo will have a new look at the front and rear, as well as improvements to the interior finish. New security and technology items are also expected.

Under the hood, the current 1.0 turbo flex engine should also gain direct fuel injection, jumping to 130 hp (the current model offers 116 hp). To this end, the Gravataí (RS) factory will receive part of the R$7 billion that GM will invest in Brazil until 2028.
