A CNH Industrial, owner of the agricultural machinery brands New Holland Agriculture and Case IHannounced this Monday (29), a partnership with Intelsatone of the largest satellite communications networks in the world, based in Luxembourg, to offer mobile internet services in remote areas.

The initiative puts the Industrial CNH in the space race for agricultural satellite connectivity, alongside rival John Deere, which has already signed a partnership with SpaceXby billionaire Elon Musk.

CNH and Intelsat intend to launch their services months before SpaceX and John Deere, scheduled for the end of 2024.

Internet in the field

According to CNH, the company will be “the first to provide farmers with comprehensive internet access through a robust satellite communications service”.

The initiative, unprecedented in the sector, aims to meet the Brazilian demand for connectivity in the countryside, where only 19% of the area available for agricultural use has access to high-speed internet, according to data from ConectarAGRO.

A from the third quarter of 2024Case IH and New Holland customers in the country will have access to the service, which will allow the use of various digital tools to optimize production and management of agricultural properties.

According to the CNH, it will be offered through a terminal tested and designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and vibrations and shocks produced by agricultural equipment and activities.

“We have proven that robust, custom-built terminals, which can access multiple satellite orbits from anywhere on Earth, offer the highest network reliability, highest throughput and best user experience,” he added.

Additionally, Intelsat is expanding its operations center in Brazil and investing in new satellite capacity to support those in the country.

Financial details of the deal, including the cost of services to farmers, were not disclosed by the companies.
