Income Tax taxpayers will have a more digital declaration season from 2025, according to José Carlos da Fonseca, national supervisor of the IR Program.

The Federal Revenue and Serpro are already discussing and planning that, from 2025, technologies will begin to be implemented that make it possible to replace the offline declaration (program installed on the computer) with an online solution, with real-time validations.

“We believe it will be a new milestone in the IRPF. We do not expect full compliance by all taxpayers in 2025, but it is the beginning of a new journey, of a new way of presenting the Income Tax declaration”, said the supervisor.

According to Fonseca, the IRS will start using technology that is based on storing information in the cloud and an online application. “We have already started doing this work together with Serpro [serviço de dados do governo]”, he stated.

At the beginning of the second half of April, Revenue and Serpro brought together business and IT development teams to begin specifying the requirements that will guide the evolution of the “My Income Tax” multiplatform service for the next cycle and released a press release this week on the topic.

Fonseca briefly recalled the trajectory of IRPF technology. The first IR declaration was in 1924, made on paper, in a simple form, which evolved over time and, in the 90s, the Revenue began to offer the possibility of filling out the declaration electronically and sending it over the internet, with the program created at the time together with Serpro.

The pre-filled form can be used as an example of the evolution of the partnership, according to the spokespeople. The automated model, which also guarantees priority in the payment of refunds, already represents 40% of the 18.7 million declaration deliveries made until 6:45 pm on Friday (26) and has proven itself year after year.

Jamil Jende, who leads the Declaration Development team at Serpro, states that the 2025 cycle has already started and the promise is that a new product, related to the program, should be launched next season.

“We are working on this new product for 2025, which should bring a series of innovations, both for the end user and for the management of the solution by the Federal Revenue Service”, adds Jamil.
