During the Ordinary Assembly this Thursday (25), Petrobras approved the distribution of 50% of extraordinary dividends, which corresponds to around R$22 billion.
The proposal was presented to the state-owned company’s shareholders by the federal government after the government itself rejected, in March, the same proposal made by the Petrobras Board of Directors, which started a crisis of confidence.
The proposal approved today includes the distribution of 50% of the excess profit from 2023, which was R$43.9 billion. The proposal was presented by the National Treasury attorney, Ivo Timbó.
“The Union votes to change the original proposal from Petrobras’ management regarding the allocation of the 2023 results, adjusting it to the distribution of 50% of the remaining net profit”, stated Timbó.
The government, which holds most of the shares, will be the biggest beneficiary of the measure and will receive around R$6 billion.
According to Timbó, the government’s proposal is to distribute the amount in two installments: May 20th and June 20th. The distribution of the other half of the dividends will be made by the end of the year.
The discussion about the distribution of extra dividends generated a serious crisis between the president of the state-owned company, Jean Paul Prates, and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).
The board of directors of the state-owned company had suggested distributing the resources as proposed by the government this Thursday, however, the option was rejected by the members of the Council who represent the Union. On the other hand, the members of the collegiate appointed by the minority shareholders defended the distribution 100% of the value.
