According to the president of the board, these 12 candidates were evaluated for two years, in work that involved not only the board, but executive president Harry Schmelzer and external consultants.

– Succession is a very relevant business. Kuba found out two days before he was announced (as the new president) to all shareholders. The general management directors found out the day before it was announced to shareholders and this process was carried out over two years, with the support of specialized consultancies. We defined it a week before making the announcement – said Décio da Silva.

According to him, because WEG is a large company, the board preferred to have many chosen. Hence the participation of 12 in the process to choose Harry Schmelzer’s successor.

Décio da Silva highlighted that, as succession is a very important business, it must be planned in the long term. He highlighted the trajectory of Alberto Kuba, 44 years old, who joined the company in the commercial area in Brazil, reached management, was then expatriated to China, took on the role of director and, for five years, was president of WEG China.

When he returned to Brazil, he took over the superintendence of WEG Motores, the group’s main unit, and last year his office was transferred to the United States.

– Kuba is the fourth president of WEG. My father (Eggon João da Silva) was president for 28 years. I went for 18 years. Harry was there for 16 years, had an extraordinary mandate and, now, Kuba enters – highlighted Décio da Silva.

According to him, Harry Schmelzer’s extraordinary work placed WEG among the “Top Ten” in the market. Currently, the company is in seventh or sixth position among the most valuable companies on the Brazilian stock exchange, B3.
