Revealed in Thailand in February, the new Toyota Corolla Cross arrives on the Brazilian market at the end of this month. In addition to the renewed look, the SUV promises to be more economical with ethanol in the hybrid version. With gasoline, consumption slightly worsened, even reaching 17.1 km/l. Production will be maintained in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo.

Among the main aesthetic changes at the front, the model will have redesigned LED headlights, a grille with hexagonal elements and a new bumper. At the back, the taillights, also LED, feature a new internal arrangement of lights, but maintain the same format.

A very welcome change (and subject of controversy in the past) was the adoption of a slightly more pronounced rear bumper. Thus, the exhaust muffler, which was nicknamed “lunch box”, will be hidden. Very visible in the first vehicles produced, it was even painted black in subsequent units. Finally, there are new 18-inch wheels.

Corolla Cross mechanics will be the same

In both the combustion-only and hybrid versions, the mechanics will remain the same. Only some calibrations received adjustments to comply with emissions standards.

Thus, the combustion Corolla Cross continues with a 2.0 flex aspirated engine that produces 177 hp with ethanol and 169 hp with gasoline and 21.2 mkgf with both fuels (a reduction of 0.2 mkgf in torque). The hybrid configuration combines a 1.8 engine with an electric engine to deliver 122 hp and 16.5 mkgf. In both cases, the transmission is automatic, CVT type.

The consumption data for the restyled SUV is already known. Toyota published the numbers in Inmetro’s Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV). According to the record, the car runs 8.2 km/l in the city and 9.3 km/l on the highway with ethanol, and 11.6 km/l in the city and 13.3 km/l on the highway with gasoline with the 2.0 engine. In the hybrid option, there are 12.5 km/l in the city and 10.1 km/l on the highway with ethanol, in addition to 17.7 km/l in the city and 14.6 km/l on the highway with gasoline.

Most complete equipment list

In the cabin, the 12” digital instrument panel and the multimedia center with a 12.3” screen are new in the top configurations. For the others, the screen will be 10.1”, but always with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. As anticipated by Jornal do Carro, the SUV will have changes to another item considered outdated: the pedal parking brake. Instead, it will have a push-button electronic system.

The internal lighting will be LED and there will be an induction cell phone charger. The list also includes dual-zone air conditioning, electric steering, leather or fabric seats, a panoramic sunroof and an electrically operated trunk lid.
