So, by increasing the ground clearance of the Spin minivan, Chevrolet is not technically incorrect in using the term crossover. However, it is rather a marketing ploy, since not only in Brazil, but throughout the world, the technical definition is worth very little, and SUV and crossover end up being considered practically synonymous.

For the public P.J., being a minivan or crossover doesn’t make a big difference. In retail, this change in positioning is fundamental. After all, it was this consumer’s desire for SUVs which ended up leading to the near extinction of most other segments. Thus, this strategy reinforces Chevrolet’s search, with the new Spin, for a greater variety of consumers – as well as more weapons to face the C3 Aircross.

However, care must also be taken not to lose the loyal consumer of the model which, according to Chevrolet itself, is the one with the highest loyalty rate in its line. In 2020, 74.35% of Spin’s sales were direct sales – 15,105, of the total 20,314 units registered.

The data are from the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave). The automaker, however, believes that, with the renewed product, the tendency is for this mix change it. Not that retail will represent the majority of businesses. It should only have a higher percentage than the current one in the total participation.

New design pleases

Another change is in the look: Spin has become more beautiful. And, according to Chevrolet, 42% of its parts have been updated – undergoing renovation or complete modification.
