Interpreter of Guilherme Tell in No Rancho Fundo, Rafael Saraiva warns that his character will go crazy with passion. After being kissed by Caridade (Clara Moneke), the street artist will seem drunk with so much love. “He falls madly in love. Everything becomes about her in his head. Everything he looks at, the glass he drinks water from becomes the chance to drink Charity. He lives this romance that is very different, because she doesn’t understand anything, and he’s very confused,” says the 23-year-old actor.

From this unusual relationship, scenes will emerge of a couple that is nothing classic. “The character is very crazy, because he is a poet and communicates through poetry. The characters in the soap opera themselves often don’t understand him. Even he doesn’t understand himself, so he’s kind of the town’s crazy person”, summarizes Saraiva.

This madness is very enjoyable for him to play. The actor states that he is a street artist who is affectionate and romantic, with fun scenes and sophisticated text. “I quote incredible poets from Brazil, Portugal… I discover poets with Guilherme.”

Saraiva is not a beginner in the arts, but he is debuting on TV in No Rancho Fundo. He started 12 years ago and worked on different theater plays. In addition to acting, he is a screenwriter and is part of the Porta dos Fundos troupe. In the soap opera, he will show more of his comedic streak.

“He’s all shy, having difficulty behaving, anxious, but very passionate and eager to live. I think this contradiction is beautiful and full of humor to explore”, comments the actor.

The interpreter reveals that he watched the soap opera Mar do Sertão (2022) to learn about the universe created by Mario Teixeira, since No Rancho Fundo has the same footprint. “For my character, I was very inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac [peça sobre um poeta feio que encanta sua amada por meio das palavras] who also has all this work with poetry and platonic passion”, he says.

The comedian reveals that he auditioned in October last year. “Right at the end of the test, Allan [Fiterman, diretor] he already indicated that he had really enjoyed it… So, I wasn’t that nervous, but, when I got the confirmation, I was thrilled to be experiencing something that my memories, my family, the whole of Brazil loves so much, which is soap operas.”

For Saraiva, the big difference between acting on television and in theater is the waiting time between one scene and another. “In theater, we do one scene after another. On television, we record, wait… So, I think the muscle you have to work is different from the muscle of a theater actor.”

Written by Mario Teixeira, No Rancho Fundo takes place ten years after the events of Mar do Sertão. The plot should be replaced by Tutti Frutti, a soap opera by Alessandra Poggi that will star Duda Santos.
