Daniel Filho was not happy to learn that Globo intends to make a new version of Anything goes. The iconic director also criticized the new wave of showing soap operas that are already entirely recorded, a model mainly established in streaming.

In an interview with Hildegard Angel, on TV Brasil 247, Daniel Filho commented that he noticed the change and wear and tear in dramaturgy due to remakes. “I saw this before, what’s happening now. If they’re doing so many reruns, it’s because there’s no one thinking about doing anything new.”

He continued, giving a first example that is from outside Brazil. “When Americans start wanting to remake Psycho, now in color. We’ve already seen Psycho, Psycho is that”

The director, responsible for establishing the Globo quality standard alongside Boni, between the 70s and 80s, harshly criticized Globo’s decision to make a new version of Vale Tudo. “When I see it like this, who will play the role of Odete Roitmann. Odete Roitmann is a role created by Beatriz Segall, it was created by her. It’s not that it was written and she did it. The soap opera is something that happens simultaneously with the public,” he said.

Daniel Filho destroys soap operas

Still in the interview, Daniel Filho was emphatic in criticizing the new model, especially streaming, in showing soap operas only after they are recorded, as was the case with Todas as Flores, on Globoplay and the upcoming works on Max (formerly HBO), Dona Beja and Fatal Beauty.

“I told them that and I still think so. When they record the entire soap opera, it’s no longer a soap opera. You take a much bigger risk, which is writing 80 chapters, 90 chapters of a story without having any repercussions from it. It’s impossible for you to keep up with reading the possibility that a soap opera will have”, said the director.

At 87 years old, he made a point of remembering how it worked when he was in charge of the recordings. “We would start a soap opera with a maximum of 20, 22 chapters written and even then we would point out the next chapters because we would see what happened.”

And Daniel Filho also made revelations. “Sometimes I noticed a little earlier during the recordings, rarely did we replace an actor, someone at the beginning of a soap opera. It’s not that the guy was a bad actor, it was the chemistry that was wrong and without chemistry we know it doesn’t work “

“If you propose a soap opera that is ready, it is not a soap opera. It is not a soap opera. You lose one of the main authors, which is the public. It is the public that leads you to take risks”, he concluded with more criticism.
