Globo decides to continue the six o’clock soap opera

After betting everything on remakes, the new trend at Globo is to continue soap operas that were well accepted by the public. The biggest success of the six o’clock slot in the past decade, It’s a Good World! (2016) had a sequel ordered.

In recent years, Globo’s new management, led by Amauri Soares, decided to invest more in soap operas with a “guarantee of success”. Because of this, remakes and more popular plots were ordered, as well as other “non-standard” ones ended up shelved.

After investing in the remakes of Elas por Elas (1982), Renascer (1993) and the next year, Vale Tudo (1988), Globo decided to produce continuations of serials that were successful among the public.

Mar do Sertão sequence opens new path on Globo

This is what happened with No Rancho Fundo, which premiered on the 15th. According to information from the website Notícias da TV, Amauri Soares asked author Mário Teixeira to write a sequel to Mar do Sertão (2022).

Initially, the wish of the Globo boss was that No Rancho Fundo would in fact be a continuation of the novelist’s previous plot, bringing back a romantic story, with comedy and adventure.

Behind the scenes, the new soap opera was called Mar do Sertão 2. However, the plot was just made in the same universe as the previous one, bringing back some characters. Mário Teixeira himself states that this is not a continuation.

In recent months, Globo also approved a new plot by Alessandra Poggi, author of Além da Ilusão (2022). With the provisional title of Tutti Frutti, the serial will again feature fashion as one of the backgrounds of the story, just like the previous soap opera.

Is Êta Mundo Bom going to have a sequel?

Also according to the publication, now Globo has ordered a continuation of Êta Mundo Bom! from Walcyr Carrasco. The network’s management asked the author to develop a six o’clock soap opera with the same style as Candinho’s (Sergio Guizé) story.

There is even a suggestion that the protagonist of the previous soap opera return in the new serial. Guizé had already been approached about the project and signaled his willingness to revive the caipira.

The idea again came from Amauri Soares. After the broadcaster’s request, Walcyr Carrasco will have carte blanche to find the best way to work on the new story. With freedom, the author could make a sequel to Êta Mundo Bom!, or another novel with the same elements.

Globo wants popular soap operas

Internally, Amauri Soares has insisted that soap operas need to be more popular. In recent times, the dramaturgy management has only approved stories with greater popular appeal.

Plots considered more “sophisticated” have been shelved. One of the examples is O País de Alice, a novel by Lícia Manzo that had a violinist as the protagonist. The plot was canceled and replaced by No Rancho Fundo.
