Nineteen years separate the Eduardo Moscovis which we will see in the rerun of ‘Soulmate‘, shown for the second time on ‘Worth seeing again‘ from April 29, from the 55-year-old actor, which we watch today in ‘Rancho Fundo‘, both Globo soap operas. “The characters are very different, Rafael, from ‘Soulmate‘, is more romantic, period, and Quintino, from ‘In Rancho Fundo‘, is more current, despite belonging to a completely different reality, a deep Brazil. They are two very different records as an actor”, he observes, adding: “It’s very curious to reprise ‘Soulmate’ right now. I remember that my contract with the broadcaster would end shortly after this work, there was a renewal proposal, but I chose not to renew. I already thought I needed to exercise different characters, stories and products.”

It may be that in one or two years I will change my mind, but today I still cannot see myself in an exclusive relationship with any company. At first I’m happy like this, as I’ve been lately – Eduardo Moscovis

When he addresses the issue of time that separates his good guy protagonist in ‘Soulmate’success of Walcyr Carrasco shown at 6pm in 2005, for the actor who today plays a reclusive, miserly and bad-tempered millionaire, at the same time, in ‘Rancho Fundo’, the actor observes: “Now I have more gray hair and even a white beard that I don’t know where it came from (laughs). But it’s interesting, because even though Quintino is obviously older, and so different from the character in ‘Soulmate’, which I made when I was 35, has similarities with Rafael, because I got it into my head that he was old. I was inspired at the time, very playfully, by the story of ‘Beauty and the Beast‘ (The Beast needs to find true love and be reciprocated to break a spell and become a prince again). Rafael, to let go of the bitterness that took over his life when he lost his wife, Luna, needs to open up to loving her reincarnation, Serena (Priscila Fantin). He lost a great love, one of those irreplaceable ones, so he became a recluse, the story begins closed off from any type of relationship.”

In Rancho Fundo

As the grumbler Quintino Ariosto – “he is extremely miserly, he could be compared to the ‘Nonôs Correia’ (an allusion to the unforgettable character of Ary Fontoura in ‘Amor com amor se paga’, serial from 1984) of television drama. I don’t think he’s exactly a villain, in fact he’s annoying, unloved, greedy, a wonderful character”, he laughs, talking about Arthur’s adoptive father (Tulio Starling) and husband of Dona Manuela (Valdineia Soriano), who with the help of Marcelo Gouveia (José Loreto), will try to steal what Zefa Leonel (Andrea Beltrão) conquered.

Moscovis was in soap operas’The Seventh Guardian‘ (2018) and appeared in ‘A Place in the Sun’ (2022), in this last soap opera also alongside Andréa Beltrão, as now in the new one at six. Regarding the hiatus in a complete work on open TV, he comments: “In those years, there was a pandemic in the middle, I did streaming – three series in a row,’Good morning, Veronica‘ (Netflix); ‘Disjointed‘ (Amazon) and ‘Cologne‘ (Canal Brasil) – , theater, I’m even performing in Brazil with the comedy ‘Duets‘, with the Patricia Travassos. And with the fact that streaming has become very strong in recent years, we have also started to have more audiovisual offers”.

This movement made me accustomed to a place of independence, of autonomy. We get used to living this way, setting up our own work schedule. That was great for me, I don’t know if I want to do it differently today, but maybe tomorrow another type of proposal will come and I’ll accept it. Who knows? – Eduardo Moscovis

“This soap opera today has been a work with a different timing, look…with a lively crowd. The people are enthusiastic and I just try to follow along (laughs). Most are from the North and Northeast, which brings important legitimacy to this work. This climate is very good for work, because sometimes making a soap opera comes with a weight, a size, mainly due to the workload and the exposure time you have. But it’s great to be on the air again, our serial is still the product we have the greatest reach in the country”, he emphasizes.
