Marcos Frota can currently be seen as the flying bat in Chocolate with pepper. The telenovela is being shown in Globo’s telenovela special range.

In the plot written by Walcyr Carrasco, Morcego Voador is one of the members of the Grand Circo Brasilis, which arrives in the fictional city of Ventura to bring relaxation and joy.

Frota, coincidentally, has a very strong connection with the circus. When he made the telenovela Cambalacho, in 1986, the actor played a young man who wants to become a circus trapeze artist. From then on, he began to study this art and join shows of the genre.

Years later, in 1995, Marcos Frota opened his own circus and became a national reference. That’s also why he was cast for the role in Chocolate com Pimenta in 2003, after all, nothing better than a scholar and passionate about the subject to compose the nucleus.

He is the creator of the well-known Circo dos Sonhos, which has its administration in São Paulo, but runs throughout Brazil. His name is also behind the Mirage Circus, based in Santa Catarina.

Where is Marcos Frota?

Marcos Frota’s career on TV has lasted almost 50 years. He began acting on the small screen in 1976 in the soap opera O Julgamento, on the extinct Tupi. In the same year he premiered on Globo, in the first version of Escrava Isaura.

Afterwards, he starred in numerous serials, such as Elas por Elas, Vereda Tropical, Sassaricando, Vamp, Mulheres de Areia, A Próxima Vítima, Era Uma Vez…, O Clone, América and Ti Ti Ti. The last telenovela in which she appeared was Sol Nascente, in 2016, making only a participation in a few chapters.

Outside of soap operas, he has appeared in two films, Os Saltimbancos Trapalhões: Rumo a Hollywood, in 2017, and O Grande Circo Místico, in 2018.

Since then, the Chocolate com Pimenta actor has been dedicated to work off-screen. In addition to managing circuses and always looking for new businesses and partnerships related to the circus world, Marcos Frota launched in 2022 the book Paya – Eterna arte de Paiaçar.

Death of first wife and son with Carolina Dieckmann

What few people know about Marcos Frota is that he faced a great personal drama in the early 90s. He was married between 1976 and 1993 to businesswoman Cibele Ferreira, who died in 1993 in an accident.

With Cibele, the actor had three children: Amaralina, born in 1979, Apoena, born in 1981, and Tainã, born in 1989. After being widowed, he had to face the dual role to raise his children.

“She passed away in a car accident, but to her I owe the formation of my character, the choice of my profession. I lived a love story that feeds me until today”, told Frota at the Meeting with Fátima Bernardes. The two started dating in their teens.

Two years after losing his wife, Marcos Frota had just opened his first circus and decided to invite artists to the ring. One of his guests was Carolina Dieckmann, who was already an actress at Globo and starred in Tropicaliente.

The two fell in love, but only started dating in 1996. They were married in a ceremony inside the Frota circus. In 1999 Davi was born, the couple’s first and only child. Carolina Dieckmann and Marcos Frota separated in 2003 without major trauma. In 2007 the Vai na Fé actress married director Tiago Worcman
