Gabriel Medina will follow from afar the decision of the World Surfing Tour. The two-time world champion is rooting for Brazil to remain at the top of the WSL and believes Filipe Toledo is the favorite for the title in Lower Trestles, California, United States, between September 8th and 16th. Medina sees the current leader of the ranking in his best season.
– I wanted to see Filipinho winning because he doesn’t have the title yet. He’s a kid that we’ve lived together a lot in these stages. I came back to the Circuit and we spent a lot of time together. This year he is very focused, in reality it is the best year in terms of results, he arrived well ahead of the rest, but of course I am rooting for the Brazilian final, that Italo manages to come from below to make the final, it will be too much for them and for us! – Medina said after participating in the Spectacular Sport.

All WSL Finals heats will be broadcast live from sportv. The ge will broadcast the first two matches of each genre live and follow all the emotions of the decision in real time.
Medina played a few rounds of the World Tour this year to take care of his mental health and because of a knee injury. Thus, he was out of the running for the top 5 that advanced to the WSL Finals.

Filipinho, meanwhile, reached five finals in ten stages, winning at Bells Beach and the Rio Pro. Leader of the ranking, he already enters the decisive heat in Trestles. While the Olympic champion Italo Ferreira, in fourth place, will still need to overcome the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi and the Australians Ethan Ewing and Jack Robinson to reach the decisive heat.
– I think the only guy who could pass all these heats would be Italo, he’s the only guy who can come from the back and face Filipe. Will be cool. I’m rooting for the Brazilian final, but Filipe is the big favorite. I think this year is a very favorable year for Filipe to win. In this wave, for me, he’s one of the favorites, if he’s not the favorite. He arrives in a very good position. You’ll have to surf less, fewer heats. Of course, the guys in the top 5 are pretty good,” Medina said.

Brazil will also be represented in the women’s dispute of the WSL Finals. Current world runner-up, Tatiana Weston-Webb was third of the season.
– Tati has great chances. She got pretty close last year. Carissa (Moore) is a very cool competitor, very smart in the competition, and ended up choosing the best waves. But Tati, with these years of experience, has won some competitions and has evolved a lot, it’s quite possible. She has a chance to become world champion. It will be something unprecedented – Medina said.
