With a commendable performance in the second half, Fortaleza beat Boca Juniors 4-2, in the third round of the Sudamericana group stage. Lucero scored twice, as did Yago Pikachu. Pochettino also stood out with three assists. Merentiel and Zenón did it for Boca. Leão coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda analyzed it.

– I want to thank the players, they deserve it, they worked for it. We played a balanced game in the first half. In the first 15 minutes, our pressure worked. After the goal, they had possession of the ball and managed to convert. In the second half, we killed the game with goals and playing a very effective offensive game. We made good use of this possibility – he commented.

Regarding the changes in the lineup, Vojvoda made a point of praising Pedro Augusto, who played as a defender alongside Brítez and Titi (who came on during the first half). Pedro missed the penalty in the 2023 South American final, in which Fortaleza finished runner-up.

– I’m happy for Pedro. We know how he works because of that. We trust him. I understand the fans, the moments of anger and fury. But he is a person who, if I have to define it in one word, is “resilience”. For everyone to learn this – says Vojvoda.

With the result, Fortaleza has nine points, at the top of Group D. Boca has four points. Sportivo Trinidense has three points, and Nacional Potosí is at the bottom, with just one. There are three games left each. Nacional Potosí and Fortaleza face each other on May 8th, at Víctor Ugarte, at 9 pm.
