Augusto’s idea was also to strengthen relations with the Sevilla manager. However, the greatest interest was to obtain more information about Lamela.

Timão has been in contact with the player’s staff for a few weeks and even offered a high salary in relation to the squad’s average, in addition to a three-year contract. The Argentine’s representatives were satisfied with Corinthians’ offer, but made it clear that the player’s preference was to remain in Europe.

With no response in the days following the initial contact, the São Paulo team’s management backed away from the possibility of the deal, until Augusto Melo’s meeting with the president of Sevilla, which was motivated by the Corinthians director’s interest in making a move that would have an impact on the market. The president of the black and white club considers Lamela an athlete with these credentials and also capable of raising the technical level of the Corinthians squad.
