The dream became reality: ‘The MONSTER is back’.
After many flirtations over the years, the Fluminense announced this Tuesday (07), the signing of defender Thiago Silva.
The defender is at the end of his contract with the Chelsea and will return to the Laranjeiras team after the opening of the international window, on July 10th, with a contract valid until June 2026.
“The player will arrive in Rio de Janeiro to join the squad led by coach Fernando Diniz in about a month, after the end of his contract with Chelsea, in England, and complete the procedures for his move. The defender will only be able to play in games for the club from July 10th, when the international transfer window will open”, published Fluminense in announcing the deal.
“Another monster back home. I really wanted to, when I started managing in 2019, one of the platforms was to bring back those who made history here. First we started with Fred, then Marcelo, and now Thiago”, stated Mario Bittencourt, president of the club, in a statement on Instagram of the club.
“It was part of the fans’ pride and the club’s competitiveness. Not just those who had history, but like Cano, Felipe Melo, Fábio, who were champions and made Fluminense champions.”
To repatriate Thiago Silva, Fluminense overcame strong competition.
A ESPN found that the defender still had offers, mainly from England. However, the Brazilian’s desire to return to Tricolor weighed heavily.
The defender arrives to fill a space in the defense that had been vacant since the departure of Nino, currently at Zenit. With this, the ‘Monster’, as he is called by Tricolor fans, is the hope of better days for the club’s defense.

Thiago Silva played three professional seasons for Fluminense before moving on to Milan, from Italy. Between 2006 and 2008, the tricolor idol played in 146 matches, scored 14 goals and was part of the champion squad of Brazil’s Cup 2007.
