Referee Jarred Gillett wore a so-called “RefCam” camera on his head. According to the Premier League, the proposal was to record images in order to have “more information and education about the demands of arbitration”.
The camera was attached to the communication system used by the referee to talk to other members of the team.
However, these images were not broadcast live. They will later be used in an English league documentary film about English Championship referees.
This video camera for the referee in this particular game has been approved by the Premier League, Crystal Palace and Manchester United, the Professional Football Referee Association of England (PGMOL) and the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body that determines the football rules.
