On the courts and gymnasiums of four sports venues, the more than 1200 athletes who participated in the School Games and Student Team Games – Regional Stage – demonstrated determination and determination. There were hundreds of matches over five days of games and once again Lucas do Rio Verde demonstrated that it is prepared to host major events at state and national level.

The matches were played in futsal, volleyball, basketball and handball. The teams’ intention was to reduce the differences and increase the score against the opponent, guaranteeing a place for the state tournament that takes place in July right here in the city.

Accommodated in schools provided by the municipality, the athletes had access to free breakfast, lunch and dinner, in the Events Center space of the Roberto Munaretto Exhibition Park. Everything was prepared with care by the hands of professionals, volunteers and with the help of the teachers from the Department of Sports and Leisure. And the menu was varied, including protein, carbohydrates to give athletes energy, and salads to accompany. For dessert, fruits such as bananas and apples were served every day.

Most of the games were broadcast live by a partner company. Even so, parents and family members who were able to accompany the competitors, made the games lively, bringing fans and encouragement to the athletes on the court.

An event that once again marked the history of sport in Lucas do Rio Verde, with the engagement of public authorities, through Lucas do Rio Verde City Hall, government of the State of Mato Grosso, through the State Secretariat of Culture, Sport and Leisure (Secel), collaboration of participating municipalities and organization of the Lucas do Rio Verde Department of Sports and Leisure.

“We had a lot of hard work and I thank my team for always being attentive and willing to make our events the best. And I believe that we are increasingly uniting sport and education and forming good citizens involved in sport. We all came out winners, we can say with conviction”, said the Secretary of Sports and Leisure, Andre Matto.

Mayor Miguel Vaz was present at the opening of the games, as were other authorities, and also attended some matches throughout the competition.

“I am very happy to see how our children and young people are committed to playing sports. And once again we demonstrate that Lucas do Rio Verde has the structure for major regional and state events in various sports. It’s more opportunity for our population”, concluded Mayor Miguel Vaz.

Among the Lucas do Rio Verde teams that reached the finals of the Student Games and came first, are the men’s handball team from Escola Municipal Eça de Queiroz and the men’s futsal team from Colégio La Salle. None of the city’s teams qualified in the student selection games.
