O Santos received this Tuesday (30) a notification from FIFA that could result in his third “transferban” of the season. This time, the debt in question is related to the purchase of Gabriel Carbajal, from Argentinos Juniors, in 2022, where the club failed to pay an amount of 580 thousand dollars (around R$3 million). Initial information is from GE and confirmed by DIÁRIO.

Argentinos Juniors, the athlete’s former club, claims not to have received this amount from a negotiation that revolved around R$8 million for the purchase of the player, currently loaned to Puebla, in Mexico, by Santos himself.

Carbajal was hired during the administration of former president Andres Rueda, when the then board made an agreement to pay for the purchase of the midfielder in installments. To avoid punishment from FIFA, Santos will have to pay off the debt immediately. If confirmed, this will be the third transfer ban suffered by the club this year.

Previously, Santos was penalized by FIFA due to debts owed to former Argentine coach Fabián Bustos and for non-payment for the signing of Christian Cueva from Krasnodar, from Russia, made in 2019. The payment to Bustos was around R$4, 7 million, while for Krasnodar, there will be three installments totaling R$22.7 million. Adding these debts to Carbajal’s, the total amount reaches R$30 million.

Gabriel Carbajal arrived at Santos in August 2022 and, in the following season, was loaned to Vasco. He is currently on loan to Puebla, from Mexico, and has a contract with Santos until June 2026, accumulating 12 appearances and one goal scored for the club.
