A Aston Martin asked the FIA to review the penalty that Fernando Alonso suffered in the sprint race at the Chinese GP Formula 1 after a collision with Carlos Sainz.

After the sprint race, the stewards imposed a time penalty that did not affect the Spaniard’s result because he retired after the incident, but they also penalized Alonso with three points on his license.

Now, the FIA has announced that the British team has requested a review and summoned a team representative and a Ferrari representative to appear before the track marshals on Friday at the Miami GP, ahead of the first and only free practice session.

FIA statement for Aston Martin and Ferrari ahead of Miami GP

“The Stewards received a request for a Right of Review under Article 14 of the FIA International Sporting Code from the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team on 23 April 2024 in relation to the Stewards’ decision for the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix, Document 40 ( alleged violation of Appendix L, Chapter IV, Article 2 (d) of the International Sporting Code in relation to car 14).

Representatives of both teams must appear before the flight attendants on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 2:00 pm (CEST), in relation to the above. The hearing will be held virtually via video conference, details of which will be provided in a separate communication.”

if there is a “significant and relevant new element that was not available to the party seeking review at the time of the decision in question.

If the stewards determine, in accordance with Article 14.3 of the FIA International Sporting Code, that such an element exists, a second part of the hearing will be convened at a time to be communicated retrospectively. Any other “interested party” may request permission from the commissioners to be present at the second part of the hearing, should it be called.”
