Landim reveals conversation with Gabigol and explains why leaving would be a mistake

Rodolfo Landimpresident of Flamengogave an interview to “GE” and revealed a conversation he had with Gabriel Barbosa, known as Gabigolregarding the possible departure of the Rubro-Negro striker.

With a contract with the Rio team only until the end of this year, the athlete has not yet agreed on his renewal and can sign a pre-contract with any other club from the second half of the year.

“What I said to Gabriel was the following: ‘Zico is Flamengo’s biggest idol, and for his image it was very important that he only played for Flamengo in Brazil’”, began the president, who had the conversation with the star during the inauguration of the museum at the Gávea headquarters.

“You see other great players who played for Flamengo and are not even among the top 10. For me, they should be there among the idols. But, as they played for other clubs, they are not. For Flamengo fans, the player having spent most of his career here is very important.”

“What did I mean by the statement? Due to several of his qualities, not only as a player, leader and everything he is, Zico is over 70 years old and still lives off the stardom he had with Flamengo”.

“And the difference between Gabriel and Zico is 44 years. One day Zico will pass, and Gabriel, if he continues to invest and play for Flamengo, will be able to enjoy this for the rest of his life”, said Landim, who also reiterated that, if Gabigol says goodbye to the club, he will lose the opportunity of having your image connected to Rubro-Negro forever.

“I don’t understand that there is any better place for him to continue his career than at Flamengo. Why? In addition to the years he will have in salary playing football, he will be able to enjoy this idolatry of having been an idol during that very winning period for Flamengo, and I hope he continues to do so.”

“Basically, this is the message I give: leaving Flamengo to play for any other club, he can earn more or less the same thing or the same money. But he will miss the opportunity to be able to use a lot of his image in the future because he is too tied to the biggest club in Brazil”, he concluded.
