Palmeiras plans to sell players to save on salaries

-

Like most Brazilian clubs, Palmeiras has several players on loan from around the world. However, three of these athletes draw attention for their high salaries. Thus, Verdão plans to sell them, but none of them have a defined situation.

These “luxury” names are: attacking midfielder Bruno Tabata, midfielder Eduard Atuesta and striker Rafael Navarro. Their loan contracts are coming to an end this year and, if they are not definitively negotiated, they should return to Alviverde. However, Palmeiras understands that they would not receive opportunities and plans to sell the players, according to information from UOL.

Bruno Tabata is the one who stood out most for his current club, Qatar SC. In this way, he entered the field 24 times, finding the net on nine occasions and providing six assists. For comparison purposes, at Palmeiras, he scored just two goals in more than 30 games.

Despite the good performance, the Qatari club has not yet defined its permanence. Tabata is on loan until June 30, 2024 and has a purchase option of 5 million euros (around R$27.6 million at quote), the same amount that Verdão paid to sign him.

Atuesta and Navarro are in a more complicated situation

Unlike Tabata, Atuesta and Navarro did not present good numbers for their clubs. The Colombian midfielder has a contract with Los Angeles FC until December 31 and, so far, has only played eight games, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

On the other hand, it is worth remembering that Atuesta recently arrived in MLS. So, if he maintains his level of performance until the end of the year, there are chances of him being hired permanently. The reason for this is that the model of your contract obliges you to be hired if you achieve certain goals.

Finally, Navarro’s situation is by far the most complicated, as the striker has a contract with the Colorado Rapids until June 30 and has not had a good 2023. To give you an idea, last year, he played ten times, making just one goal and one assist.

However, his performance improved in 2024, scoring four goals and providing one assist in nine matches. Despite this, so far, his current club has not informed Palmeiras about his wishes and if he wants to keep the striker, he will have to pay 5 million dollars (R$ 25.8 million).

It is worth remembering that Navarro arrived at Palmeiras free of charge, but the club plans to recover what was paid in gloves and the athlete’s wages. In the other two cases, the Greatest National Champion tries to recover the amounts spent on signings.
