Madrid (Spain) – With an eye on what is one of his biggest goals in this season of farewell to tennis, which is to compete in the Paris Olympic Games, Spaniard Rafael Nadal revealed that he intends to play the doubles event with Carlos Alcaraz. For this, however, Rafa would like to use some tournaments as preparation alongside his compatriot, without specifying where exactly they would perform this duet.

“I think, if everything goes well, we will play. It’s also extremely exciting for me personally. It would be amazing to play one or two tournaments before the Olympics to prepare. I guess if we’re both in good shape, why not? We could have the chance to form a great team and aspire to great things,” said the 37-year-old.

Nadal dreams of third Olympics, Alcaraz of the first

Olympic champion in singles in Beijing 2008, Nadal also climbed to the highest place on the podium in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, by winning the doubles tournament with Marc Lopez. In London 2012, the Spaniard did not participate in the event because of a knee injury, while at the Tokyo Games in 2021, he withdrew from playing, stating that he would not have the physical conditions to prepare properly.

In Alcaraz’s case, his presence in Paris will mark his first Olympic participation, as in 2021 he did not go to Japan as he believed he was not yet ready to compete in the competition. Last year, the current world number 3 already indicated that he would like to play alongside Nadal in the French capital. “It would be a dream. Not only being able to win medals in singles and doubles, but also the simple fact of competing alongside an idol”, he highlighted.
