Clube Desportivo Xico Handebol is mourning the death of Paulo Abreu. The 26-year-old player from Guimarães passed away this Thursday.
Paulo Abreu represented Xico Andebol since 2015 and had a 2nd Division title on his resume. The Guimarães native completed his training at Fermentões, where he arrived in 2005 to play for the Bambis.

Paulo Abreu “was an exemplary athlete in every way”, says the president of Xico Andebol in the note he issued this morning.” “In addition to being a prominent figure on the field, with several titles won while serving the University of Minho and Xico Andebol, he was also an example of integrity, fair play and dedication to the sport”, he adds.

In the same statement, Xico Andebol highlights that “as captain of the team, Paulo Abreu led us with mastery, being a source of inspiration for his colleagues, managers and even his opponents. His passion for handball and our club was evident in every game he played and in every moment he spent with his teammates. His departure leaves us deeply saddened and is an irreparable loss for all of us. Paulo Abreu will always be part of the history of Xico Andebol and in the hearts of each one of us. In this moment of pain, we offer our most sincere condolences to Paulo Abreu’s family and friends. May they find comfort and serenity at this difficult time.”
