Liverpool’s search for a successor to Jürgen Klopp continues to make headlines in Europe, with the name of Arne Slot, Feyenoord commander, gaining momentum among rumors this week. And, when asked about the English club’s possible interest in signing him, the coach was honest and opened up, indicating that the teams are already negotiating his release.

– It’s no secret that I would like to be Liverpool’s new coach. My decision is clear. Feyenoord and Liverpool are negotiating, and I’m waiting to see what will happen. I am confident and hope that the clubs reach an agreement – Slot told ESPN this Thursday.

According to “Sky Sports”, Liverpool management came to the conclusion that the Dutch coach “meets all the criteria for the position”, having advanced in negotiations in recent days. As Slot has an active contract with Feyenoord, the English need to negotiate a termination with the club – which would have rejected a first offer of 7.7 million pounds (R$49.7 million). Liverpool would have to pay at least 9 million pounds (R$58.1 million) for the release, according to “Sky”.

Slot stood out in charge of Feyenoord, where he has been since 2021. Dutch champion last season, he led the team to the Dutch Cup title last weekend. In the national league, this time, the team is further away from winning. PSV leads the tournament with a nine-point advantage over Feyenoord with three rounds remaining in the competition.

Coach Jürgen Klopp announced in January that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, despite having a contract with the club until 2026. Since then, the English have been looking for a consensus name to replace the commander, and several names have been linked to the club in the European press. Xabi Alonso, former Liverpool player, was one of the most talked about, but indicated that he will remain at Bayer Leverkusen. Another option considered was Rúben Amorim, from Sporting.
