A Formula E, the electric car category, will put an evolution of the third generation car (Gen3 Evo) on the tracks from the next season, which starts at the end of 2024. The new model was presented in Monaco, on the eve of the Principality E-Prix, which takes place this weekend. The single-seater promises to be the fastest tram on the entire planet, as well as the most efficient, sustainable and powerful, capable of reaching 320 km/h.

One of the main new features concerns the car’s acceleration capacity. The new model will be able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.86 seconds, which means it will be 30% faster than a Formula 1 car and a 36% increase compared to the current Formula E car.

This evolution will make the Gen3 Evo, named after the category, provide even more balanced races, with a more robust and aerodynamic body. The tires will also be modified to increase the grip capacity – which makes the car “stick” to the ground and make turns at high speed without skidding – by between 5 and 10%. According to the category, tires will have recyclable material in 35% of their composition.

“The GEN3 Evo heralds a groundbreaking chapter in the evolution of Formula E, embodying our dedication to innovation and sustainably achieved high performance. Featuring unprecedented acceleration and an advanced aerodynamic design, the car aims to intensify the excitement of our racing, captivating our drivers and fans around the world with truly superior capabilities and performance,” said Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E.

The cars will also have the capacity to regenerate almost 50% of the energy used during the entire race during braking, totaling 600 kW. The electric motor used in this new generation is 90% efficient, far surpassing combustion engines, which are 40% efficient. The single-seater will increase its weight by around 19kg, reaching 859kg. For the first time, the AWD system (all-wheel drivewhich releases traction on all wheels, maximizing acceleration and control over the car) will also be activated in attack mode during races, in addition to starts and qualifying training.

“The FIA and Formula E have been working hard on the development process of this new car, which represents yet another significant advancement in electric racing technology. I would like to thank the FIA and Formula E teams for their hard work which underlines our shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable motorsport whilst delivering competitive racing,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). ).

Formula E will pass through five cities until the conclusion of the current season: Monaco, Berlin, Shanghai, Portland and London. São Paulo has a contract to host three more events at the Anhembi Complex. For the next season, the event in the capital of São Paulo should be brought forward to December 2024 or January 2025, given the time needed to assemble and disassemble the track and prepare for the samba school parades.
