The Formula 1 Commission met this Thursday to discuss the proposal for a new scoring system, where the 11th and 12th placed would also score points. However, the decision was postponed.

This proposal predicted that the positions of P11 and P12 would also score points, with no changes in the points for the first seven placed (25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8 and 6 points, respectively). The final vote was postponed to the next Commission meeting, in July.

“Commission members discussed a proposal to change the distribution of championship points, as described in articles 6.4 and 6.5 of the Sports Regulations. It was agreed that further analysis of the proposed changes was necessary, with a view to a proposal being presented at the F1 Commission meeting in July,” reads the official statement.

This decision puts smaller F1 teams on hold. They had been advocating for a change in the scoring system, as they feel they often compete without the chance to score.

It is important to highlight that half of the F1 grid has only scored twelve points in five GPs and one Sprint race held so far this year. This contrasts sharply with the 546 points already distributed. The Williams, Alpine and Sauber teams have not yet scored points in the 2024 season.
