Flawil (Switzerland) – Current Olympic champion Belinda Bencic celebrated the arrival of her daughter, Bella, born last Tuesday. The 27-year-old Swiss player had announced her pregnancy in November.
“Bella, our love”, wrote Bencic this Wednesday on social media, in a message also shared by her longtime boyfriend, former football player and now physical trainer Martin Hromkovic.
The announcement was met with several messages of congratulations from Bencic’s colleagues on the circuit, including Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, Jelena Ostapenko, Ajla Tomljanovic, Yanina Wickmayer, compatriot Jil Teichmann and her best friend, Croatian Donna Vekic.
“Welcome to the mommy club. It is by far the best club in the world”, wrote Wickmayer, 34 years old and 88th in the world, who is also the mother of a daughter. Other tennis players on the circuit who are already mothers include Victoria Azarenka, Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki.
Bencic last competed last September in San Diego, right after the US Open. She won two titles in 2023, accumulating 31 wins and 13 losses last season. Former number 4 in the world, the Swiss currently occupies 92nd place in the rankings.
