Fernando Alonso reached an unwanted milestone in the Formula 1 Chinese GP: 4,000 days have passed since his last victory in the category. The two-time champion (2005 and 2006) has 32 F1 triumphs, but the most recent one happened 11 years ago.

Despite the lack of victories, the 42-year-old Spaniard has been achieving good results with Aston Martin, his team since 2023. Alonso achieved eight podiums and finished the 2023 drivers’ championship in fourth place, with 206 points.

However, the last time he won in the main category of world motorsport was on May 12, 2013, at the Spanish GP. If Alonso triumphs again, he will break the record for the longest gap between victories in F1. Currently, the holder of this negative record is the Frenchman Riccardo Patrese, with six years, six months and 28 days between his victories.

Since his last podium on the top step, Alonso’s career has gone through ups and downs. The driver retired from F1 and reversed his decision, sitting out the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Since then, he has had 182 GPs contested and 17 podiums. Furthermore, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice (2018 and 2019) and participated in the Indy 500 twice during this period.

The current three-time F1 champion, Max Verstappen, with more than 190 GPs contested, had not even debuted in the category when Alonso won for the last time.

Although an Alonso victory is the desire of many fans, the dominance of Verstappen and Red Bull seems to make this achievement difficult. However, the history of Formula 1 has already shown us unexpected twists and turns.
