Boxer Ryan Garcia bet on his own victory in the fight against Devin Haney, last Saturday (20/4), and won big. Considered the underdog for the duel, the American bet US$2 million and won US$12 million (R$62 million) with the points victory (majority decision) over his undefeated opponent.

Including the value of the successful bet, Ryan Garcia pocketed 50 million dollars (about R$258 million) for the victory.

“If you’re going to bet, bet on yourself. In addition to what we earn, we are eating well. About 50 million dollars (probably more) in one night. Not bad. I will let God guide me on how to use this money,” Garcia posted on social media.

Ryan Garcia doesn’t take the belt

Despite the positive result, Ryan Garcia was not entitled to the World Boxing Council (WBC) super light weight belt. At the weigh-in for the fight, he did not make the necessary weight (63.3kg), exceeding 1.4kg.

Thus, even with the defeat, Devin Haney remains the category champion until an immediate rematch is scheduled.

Devin Haney, 25, now has a record of 31 wins and one loss. Ryan Garcia, also 25 years old, reached his 25th triumph in 26 professional fights.
