Beatriz Ferreira was the big star of debut of Sem Limites right in the week he will fight for the International Boxing Federation belt. During the Olimpíada Todo Dia talk show, the boxer, who was accompanied by coach Mateus Alves, revealed the strategy adopted to face and beat Argentine Yanina Del Carmen Lescano on Saturday, April 27th and win her first professional title.

“I’m ready, I’m very confident. I trust a lot in this guy (points to Mateus), he knows a lot and knows where he can demand more, where he can relax and I trust the work of the entire team a lot. I don’t miss out on training so I can just have fun in the ring. I’m going to continue doing this story and I’m definitely going to bring this belt”, says Beatriz Ferreira.

As she has been pursuing her Olympic and professional career simultaneously since 2022, Beatriz Ferreira needs to make some adjustments to her training to be ready for the title fight. “There is a slight difference in leg mobility because the rhythm of the volume of blows is less intense between the professional and the Olympic and always focused on hurting the opponent, looking more for the knockout, which in Olympic boxing is not so common because it is a fight fast and has a head protector for women”, explains Mateus Alves.

HEAVY STRENGTH TRAINING

Because of these differences, Beatriz Ferreira needed to work harder on her strength to gain grip on her strikes and be able to take down her opponent. “A lot of strength training, a lot of training on striking, which we do at the Olympics, but it’s not as focused on that. And the professional demands a lot of that. So, it was tough”, said the boxer.

To arrive well prepared to face Argentina’s Yanina Del Carmen Lescano, Beatriz Ferreira also worked with her Brazilian teammates as sparring partners and used the team’s structure to study her opponent. “We used a structure from the Olympic team, which is Paula Vakian, a data analyst from the (Brazilian) Olympic Committee, where she studies the opponent, does statistical analysis, part of the escalation, both of Bia’s previous fights and of the opponent. She has software to analyze fights. She is fully prepared to analyze her opponent’s mistakes, our mistakes in previous fights. There really is a lot of study to get to the 27th and do what needs to be done”, explained Mateus Alves.

“It’s a heavy team I have. We think about everything, we analyze every detail so we can also have a reference on what to work on, what to improve, what we don’t need so much that we are confident in that”, adds Beatriz Ferreira, who believes that her fighting style has everything to fit with that of Yanina Del Carmen Lescano.

THE ADVERSARY

“It’s an opponent that we have to keep an eye on. She has been boxing professionally for a while now. I take all of my opponents with a surreal level of importance. I don’t think anyone is stupid. But I think my game will fit well with hers because of everything we’ve been planning. She is a taller opponent and I like tall opponents. So I think I’ll be able to apply everything we’ve been training to get this belt. I won’t make you comfortable”, promises Beatriz Ferreira.

If she wins Saturday’s fight, Beatriz Ferreira will be the first Brazilian Olympic medalist to also win a belt. Furthermore, she seeks to be the first in history, both male and female, to win an Olympic medal and a professional boxing belt in the same year.
