Starting this Monday, the 1st, the national transfer window could be an opportunity for Fortaleza to strengthen itself for the remainder of the season. O Sports THE PEOPLE found that the Pici club is looking for a center forward, but has been faced with a lack of options in the Brazilian football market.

With Lucero and Thiago Galhardo as options for the position — there is also the young Iarley, integrated into the professional squad after the Copinha —, Tricolor was already looking for a new player for the sector since the general transfer window, which closed on March 7th. On that occasion, the target was Chilean Eduardo Vargas, who preferred to remain at Atlético-MG.

Almost a month later, Leão’s football department recognizes that there is still a need for another piece for the attack given Lucero and Galhardo’s low moment in 2024. The Argentine scored five goals in 17 matches, while the number 91 shook the nets twice in ten games. The national market, however, does not have as many options.

The window only allows domestic transfers — that is, those who work in Brazil — of athletes who are registered in state championships. Fortaleza’s challenge has been to look for pieces that fit the financial reality, without the need for large investment, available for negotiation at the home club and with the technical level to contribute to Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s squad.

Runner-up in the Campeonato Carioca, striker Carlinhos, from Nova Iguaçu, even crossed Tricolor’s radar. O Sports THE PEOPLE found that the name was offered to the club a few weeks ago and, subsequently, the situation was consulted by the directors, but the center forward ended up being acquired by Flamengo.

Until the 19th, when this extra period for signings ends, Leão do Pici must try to find a striker on Brazilian soil. Other sectors of the squad are also assessed as lacking, but, given the scarcity in the market, the club must wait until July to reinforce itself.

In the 2024 season, Fortaleza signed seven players: goalkeeper Santos, defenders Kuscevic and Tomás Cardona, left-back Thauan Lara, midfielder Matheus Rossetto, midfielder Luquinhas and striker Moisés.
