The controversy involving John Textor and Palm trees added another chapter. This Monday (1), the owner of SAF do Botafogo guaranteed to have confirmed evidence that Verdão benefited in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The statement was made by the North American businessman during his participation in the program Medeiros channel on Youtube. Although he did not present evidence, Textor said the evidence will be forwarded to prosecutors.

“Last year was crazy. You know I’m not going to let what happened last year go uninvestigated. We have a new season ahead of us. We have heavy evidence, 100% confirmed, that Palm trees has benefited from match-fixing for at least two seasons. Before us”, said Textor.

“Sorry if this is going to create a lot of noise, but my evidence is 100% (reliable). It’s going to the prosecutors, so we can play football. I’m here to defend the honor of our club, the players have to play, the fans, support. But it’s a fight. I can guarantee you that no one will manipulate our matches this year”, he added.

This is not the first time that Textor accuses the Palm trees benefited in recent years. In March, the owner of SAF do Botafogo spoke about “referee corruption” in national football and cited the game between Verdão and Fortaleza, for the 2022 Brazilian Championship, saying that he sent evidence to the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation).

In an official note, the Palm trees repudiated the North American’s statements and announced that he would prosecute him in the civil, criminal and sporting spheres.
