Gustavo Carneiro and Maria Fernanda champions in Curitiba

The Curitiba Wheelchair Tennis Open ended this Sunday and two Brazilians reached the highest place on the podium in the tournament. Gustavo Carneiro took the title in the Open men’s singles, while Maria Fernanda Alves was champion in the same competition in the women’s suit. Both won the championship without losing games, with all scores being 2-0 for the Brazilians.

Gustavo Carneiro’s campaign was error-free. In the first round of men’s singles, he beat Argentine Mariano Rubinowicz 2-0, 6/3 and 6/0. Then, in a home duel against Diego Kohlrausch, he won again 2-0, 6/2 and 6/3. In the quarterfinals, he faced Jucelio da Silva Torquato, winning by the same score, with scores of 6/3 and 6/2. In the semi, he faced Argentine Ezequiel Casco and secured the decision with 6/4 and 6/3. In the final, he was champion, beating Costa Rican Jose Pablo Gil 2-0, 6/2 and 6/3.


Maria Fernanda Alves wins in the women’s competition

In addition to winning at home in the men’s tournament, Brazil also won the title in the women’s singles Open. Maria Fernanda Alves beat Johana Martinez, from Colombia, in a 2-0 decision, with 7/5 and 6/4. Before, the Brazilian beat Costa Rica’s Valeria Valverde 2-0, with 7/5 and 6/2. She then beat fellow Brazilian Jade Lanai by double 6/3 to reach the final against the Colombian.
