Guaíba level drops, but remains above the flood level

The level of Guaíba fell to 5.06 meters high at 1:15 pm. Yesterday morning, around 11 am, the height of the water was 5.28 meters, according to the Ceic (Integrated Service Coordination Center) of Porto Alegre.

Guaíba remains more than 2 meters above the flood limit, which is 3 meters. The reference is used to indicate possible damage to municipalities.

The flood that floods Porto Alegre will still take days to return to safe levels. The flood protection system, which surrounds the city, was designed to support up to 6 meters in height.

Civil Defense asks that rescued residents not return to their flooded homes. The alert applies mainly to those who live in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. According to the agency, these affected locations remain at high risk and are subject to mass movements and disease transmission.
