Exclusive: businessman who caused the death of an app driver has more than 40 fines for speeding and even ‘cracking’

One of the cases was on the most famous avenue in São Paulo. According to the fines record of Fernando Sastre Filhohe participated in a street race at a point on Avenida Paulista and was approached by police officers on January 11, 2020. An infraction that, alone, already determines the suspension of the driver’s license.

Fernando’s license was suspended in October 2023 and he recovered his wallet a few days before the crash that killed app driver Ornaldo Viana.

Fernando Sastre Filho’s history of fines includes other speeding violations, and not just in São Paulo.

In December 2020, his car was caught at 132 km/h on CE-040, in Cascavel, Ceará. On this stretch, the maximum speed allowed is 80 km/h. Forty minutes after this fine, Fernando received another for running too much, in the municipality of Aracati.

Before that, Fernando Sastre Filho had already been involved in two other traffic accidents in the East Zone of São Paulo.

In December 2020, according to what he said in the police report, a motorcyclist crossed an intersection at high speed at a red light, hitting his car. Fernando reported that he offered to call rescue and provide any assistance, but that the offer was declined.

According to the police report, he also said that a Civil Police vehicle arrived and he asked if he could leave the place, and the police allowed him to leave.

The other accident was a year and a half later. At the BO, the police officers who responded to the incident said that Fernando Sastre Filho was traveling in the right lane when he was surprised by an accident between two motorcycles, and which ended up running over the motorcycles and victims.

In both accidents, Fernando Sastre Filho was driving cars registered in the name of a company owned by his family, between the years 2020 and 2023. Together, the two vehicles have accumulated 53 traffic violations. Of these, 42 were due to speeding.

Now, Fernando Sastre Filho’s lawyers have ten days to present a written defense to the Court.
