Attention: Cascavel will experience a historic moment in the fight against dengue. The Municipal Health Department announces that it will begin vaccination against dengue this Monday (6), in all 47 health units in the Municipality.

Immunization will be aimed at children aged 10 to 14, based on hospitalization rates for dengue in the last 5 years in Brazil. It is estimated that Cascavel has a population of more than 21.7 thousand people in this age group. The goal is to vaccinate 90% of this target audience.

The Municipality received a shipment with 5,434 doses of the vaccine from the Ministry of Health, via the 10th Health Region. The doses arrived today (30) in the city. Professionals will be trained to apply Qdenga this Thursday (2).

The Department of Health warns that after infection with the dengue virus, it is recommended to wait six months to start the vaccination schedule.

The dengue vaccination schedule is two doses, with an interval of 3 months between doses.

The Municipal Immunization Program (PMI) system is already prepared to start the campaign in all 47 health units, which already carry out routine vaccinations daily. Service at the units begins at 8am and continues until 15 minutes before each unit closes.

It is worth highlighting that Cascavel is currently experiencing the worst dengue epidemic in history, with 19 confirmed deaths and more than 22 thousand registered cases.
