The family’s defense claims that the prisoner was “brutally beaten” and says that the prison sector denied access to Raul’s medical records. According to lawyer Adriano Bretas, after the refusal, access to the document was requested from the Court, which accepted the request.
Bretas claims that the attack against his client was “hidden” from the defense and the prisoner’s family. The lawyer says he will take all appropriate measures and informs that a police investigation has been launched to investigate the circumstances of Raul’s death.
Raul died as a result of pneumonia and sepsis (generalized infection), according to his defense. After the prisoner’s death, the defense explained to the UOL who was also unaware of the client’s hospitalization on April 4th. The lawyers claim that they were with Raul in the prison unit shortly before the second hospitalization and, subsequently, met with the prison director to talk about the seriousness of the client’s health condition, who appeared to be very weak at the time.
The defense also announced that it will contact different bodies to clarify the circumstances of the death. Among them: human rights commission of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Paraná, the Public Ministry, the Judiciary and SESP-PR (Secretariat of State for Public Security of Paraná).
Assault on Raul is investigated
Depen (Department of Criminal Police of the State of Paraná) says that the case is under investigation by the competent authorities. They reported that the General Inspectorate, responsible for the administrative procedure for investigating the case, recently reported the “alleged” occurrence of aggression against the prisoner.
