Since last April 22nd, the Brazil faces an unusual heat waveand forecasts indicate that this condition will last until at least May 10, 2024.
Last weekend, temperatures reached exceptional levels, especially in the central regions of the country. See the forecast Climate.
Impacts
On Saturday, Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso, recorded an impressive temperature of 37.2°C.
In Rio de Janeiro, Jacarepaguá reached 36°C and Diamante do Norte, in Paraná, reached 35.3°C, according to data from Inmet.
On Sunday, the situation was repeated, with Rio de Janeiro once again leading the ranking of the highest temperatures in the country, with several regions exceeding 38°C.
Heat
This is the fourth heat wave to hit Brazil recently and it promises to intensify even more, persisting until May 10th.
The high pressure system in the middle levels of the atmosphere continues to block the advance of rain over the affected areas, in addition to intensifying air circulation, which prevents the formation of intense rain clouds and further increases temperatures.
At this time of year, the heat is usually less intense due to the lower incidence of solar radiation and shorter days.
However, this heat wave is bringing typical summer temperatures to the Brazilian autumn, defying the usual climatological expectations for the month of May.
